Run to Home!

Well, construction at this job is in the final phase. More trims are in, more cabinet doors installed, painting almost completed...the home stretch!

A couple more doors and a few more trim pieces will finish off the range wall.

This pushed out window box is another "Vogel kitchen trademark touch". It really does bring a lot of light, and and adds the feeling of more space in a kitchen! Hey, remember this hand-crafted birdhouse from a previous posting? Well, apparently it is still in the possession of the homeowners, and not me....sigh.

I know that last week you were wondering if this cabinet was going to fit. Well, it did, perfectly, and has been beautifully trimmed out.

And, as I promised, the "Vogel Clock" has been all trimmed out as well. I love the painted panels behind it. It does seem to bring a touch of New England to this beautiful South Tampa home.

All this in preparation for a move-in in a couple of days. This should make the homeowners move--never easy!--a little more pleasant.

Countertops delivered!

It's always a really exciting day when the kitchen counter tops are installed. During the trip to the stone yard to select slabs this homeowner was captivated by this truly unusual piece of marble. Though the original plan was to make all the counter tops from black stone, this discovery led to what I think will really make this kitchen an absolute gem! Being predominantly dark it will certainly make sense with the perimeter counter tops, but it's unique coloring and veining will make this island become a great focal point.

The stone slabs can be chosen at any time during the design process, but the final measuring is not done until the cabinet bases are installed. Then the marble company creates their templates, and the stone is cut to size before delivery. Final fitting and necessary alterations are of course done on sight.




This puts the homeowners a huge step forward towards their fast-approaching move-in date.

Gutted kitchen

Here are 2 more views of the gutted kitchen. In the first photo you see the newly added kitchen window, which will offer a wonderful view from the sink.

The second photo shows the view through the new arch (replacing what was a single swinging door) opening into the family room. The transom detail above the arch and door that Chip designed will add both a touch of traditional and elegance.

Custom cabinets are under way from What Would You Like, and installation should begin later this week. That's when the space always really starts to take shape!
